it dawned on me - change and the illusory disconnect

the fundamental root-you could say the seed-of all problems in the world is the illusory disconnect humans tend to cling to. a disconnect with themselves and the world, their selves and the system.
the fundamental solution to all problems, is to move beyond that illusion of a disconnect.
"we are all one", "we are the world." these words are spoken so freely, that they seem to have lost their meaning. have we ever thought about the significance of this everyday truth? a truth that is part of some of the most ancient philosophies and is being proven by cutting edge science.
this truth makes us all infinite, makes us invinsible, makes us free, makes us responsible, makes us realize that if we ever want to change the world, we can start by changing ourselves.
the day we take on ourselves in a small way, and begin to change, is the day we've touched the world. the beauty about this thought, is that it is both selfish and selfless at the same time.
what can be more selfish than wanting and striving to change yourself and the world?

a scrap..

a series of events that began at, or before, the creation of the universe led to this moment in space and time. the events that have occurred during this period may be dissected by science and eventually explained, but what about what happened next?
a spark of emotion deep inside me, elicited a smile, followed by the sudden compulsion to say something given that I was here. say anything, it didn't matter what.
that emotional reaction and impulse to act, is the only significant phenomenon that we might revere in this experience we call life.
science may break down and dissect this last remaining mystery, but may mankind experience it, always.

background: this is a srap i posted on Nir's website. I thought it qualified to make it to this space.
bascially was staring at his smiling face or Orkut, when i smiled myself.
all this happened after reading some crazy cog sci stuff, where these (we) scientists dissected the human experience and reduced it to a few funky formulae.
now my thoughts were on emotions (i.e. me smiling on looking at his smiling face), cause i'm planning to study emotions myself. so the post was a self critical post in a way.

it dawned on me

it is indeed a miracle, that we feel even remotely significant, given the infinite vastness of the universe.
the irony is that our existence is in fact significant, for one cannot exist without the other.
the universe and the individual are interconnected in more ways than we might ever imagine.

BHUBANESWAR, India (AP) - Cheered by thousands, a four-year-old boy dubbed "India's Forrest Gump" ran 65 kilometres Tuesday in setting what his coach said was a national and mostly likely a world record....
Budhia had planned to run 70 kilometres, but doctors stopped him after 65 kilometres when he showed signs of extreme exhaustion....

(and here's the fun part in the article, here's what the kid had to say)

... "I loved running today. I can run as much as I want," the Budhia told reporters after the run.

Then he sucked his thumb.

(News article) of donkeys and wives...

"A donkey is like a housewife ... In fact, the donkey is a shade better, for while the housewife may sometimes complain and walk off to her parents' home, you'll never catch the donkey being disloyal to his master," the newspaper reported, quoting a Hindi-language primer meant for 14-year-olds.
"The comparison was made in good humor," state education official A.R. Khan was quoted as saying. "However, protests have been taken note of and the board is in the process of removing it (the reference)."

NEW DELHI: A textbook used at schools in Rajasthan compares housewives to donkeys, and suggests the animals make better companions as they complain less and are more loyal to their "masters," TOI reported Tuesday.

The book was approved by the state's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party government but has sparked protests from the party's women's wing.

State education officials in Rajasthan, a western state known for its conservative attitude toward women, said people should not be upset by the comparison, the paper said.

"The comparison was made in good humor," state education official A.R. Khan was quoted as saying. "However, protests have been taken note of and the board is in the process of removing it (the reference)."

it dawned on me - True Greatness

There is a subtle difference between great men and truly great men. My brother for instance, is one those truely great men. One day I told him, "I look up to you, I try to do things your way." His response was an immediate, firm and authoritative - "Dont".
